This tutor presents a system of chord voicings based on the teaching of guitarist Chuck Wayne that uses the terms Open, Spread and Split as alternatives to the Drop naming convention (Drop 2, Drop 3, and Drop 2 and 4).

Voicings types using 6th chord...

Close voicing - notes are in order from chord root:
R 3 5 6

Open voicing - raise second voice from Close one octave (result is same as Drop 2):
R 5 6 3

Spread voicing - raise second voice from Open one octave (result is same as Drop 3):
R 6 3 5

Octave voicing - raise top voice from Spread to double the second voice (result is same as Drop 3 modified):
R 6 3 6

Split voicing - raise third voice from Open one octave (result is same as Drop 2 and 4):
R 5 3 6
